Sunday, February 5, 2023 9am - 3pm in the Frances Young Hall of the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates*
The following events of the Los Angeles Mycological Society’s Wild Mushroom Fair are free with paid admission to the South Coast Botanic Garden. Advanced ticketing is recommended but not required; tickets will be available at entrance but admission may be limited.
9:00am – Opening of the Fair to the Public (Auditorium): Mushroom Identification Table (please bring wild mushrooms!), Vendors, LAMS merchandise, Scavenger Hunt, Children’s Craft Activities, Spent Mushroom Block Giveaway (courtesy of Smallhold), Art and Photo Contest Winners.
10:00am – Outdoor Mushroom Walk with Bob Cummings (meet at the Koi Pond; 1hr)
11:00am – Mushroom Cloning with Sam Shoemaker (Koi Pond; 1 hr)
12:00pm – Outdoor Children’s Mushroom walk with Melanie Kahn and Bat Vardeh (meet at the Koi Pond; 1hr)
– Dark Room Hour: Bioluminescent and Fluorescent Fungi (Classroom B; 1 hr)
1:00pm – Keynote Speaker Christian Schwarz: “Making Scents of Fungi; From Stench to Perfume (Koi Pond; 1.5 hrs with Q&A)
2:00pm – Children’s Book Reading of Mason Goes Mushrooming by author Melanie Kahn (Auditorium; 20-30 min)
3:00pm – Close of Fair
For outdoor activities, please dress appropriately.
No food will be sold through LAMS; limited food options served at Dottie’s Cafe at South Coast Botanic Garden (please note tailgating is not allowed in the parking lot).
